年末年始の日本の習慣を簡単に紹介します。（Here is a brief introduction to Japan’s customs during the year-end and New Year holidays.）

クリスマスが終わると大掃除に取りかかる家が多い。（After Christmas, many houses start cleaning.）

大掃除が終わると、お節料理を作ったり、買ったりします。かなり前から予約している家もあります。（When the general cleaning is over, I make or buy a frugal meal. Some houses are booked well in advance.）

家庭によっては、筑前煮、がめ煮、ちらし寿司、煮魚、いろいろな料理が正月の定番料理として作られます。（In some households, Chikuzen stew, game-ni, chirashi sushi, boiled fish, and various other dishes are prepared as standard dishes for the New Year.）

大晦日の夜にお寺や神社にお参りに行きます。新年を迎える真夜中に、除夜の鐘が１０８回鳴ります。（On the night of New Year’s Eve, we go to temples and shrines. At midnight to welcome the new year, the bell rings 108 times.）

新年が明けてからお参りする人は多いです。参拝者の多いお寺や神社の参道にはお店が並んでいます。（Many people come to worship after the New Year. Shops are lined up on the approach to temples and shrines where there are many worshippers.）
